The Special Education Training Alliance (SETA) is a central registered training organisation (RTO) that was set up at the start of 2015 in response to the Metropolitan Supported Training Unit closing and special school Principal’s in the metropolitan region recognising the value of tailored Vocational Education Training (VET) certificate courses for their students.

SETA as a central RTO handles the administration and compliance of the VET courses under its scope and the enrolments of students from the special schools. Twenty nine special schools across the state currently make up the alliance from as far north as Cairns Special School right down to Currumbin Community Special School.

SETA offers Certificate I courses in:

All SETA courses are written specifically for students with disabilities and have been reasonably adjusted to suit the students in a special school context, making attainment of certificates achievable for students.

Courses at each site have an individual feel and cater to the specific needs of the student within the school. All courses coincide with different practical internal and external work experience programs that the schools run to help consolidate the learning that occurs in the courses.

Benefits to students

Years 10, 11 and 12 students can participate in the SETA VET courses. Through the successful completion of the courses, students have the opportunity to:

  • access work readiness programs supporting the preparation and entry into the workforce
  • access a wider range of learning options through school
  • gain a nationally recognized qualification
  • gain real vocational and employability skills while at school
  • participate in structured workplace learning on-the-job through site specific internal and external work experiences.

SETA were recently involved in the creation of two EQ  EDTV productions 'Preparing students with a disability for successful futures' which showcase how SETA VET courses are benefitting our students first hand.
